Today only 20% of VC backed companies in SEA and 12% in India have a female founder. The idea for Spark was to shake up the status quo with a small step and move toward a future where more women are shaping the future and #sparktheflame for the ones in the future (3/3)

We received an overwhelming number of applications and met a few 100 #femalefounders in person. The quality and volume of these applications made us feel that the shortage of female founders is either a myth or is a problem of the past (2/3)

Excited to introduce the very first cohort of #Spark for #femalefounders. Privileged to be a part of the journey of these 20 founders across IN, SEA and MEA in fintech, saas, consumer tech, b2b & #web30. 60% of these companies are building for global markets (1/3) @Sequoia_India

Globally, % of funding $ to female founded startups is still in low single digits.. lots to be done and this is a small start! The #sparkfellowship involves a $100k grant per startup and mentorship from founders and @Sequoia_India team.
