billionaires do not earn their wealth. they exploit to get their wealth. yes even our “likable” pop stars. them too.

if one’s understanding of a capitalist system collapses the ways millionaires and billionaires obtain their wealth to make them equivalent, then one’s understanding of a capitalist system is empirically and theoretically flawed. and no catchy idiom makes up for that.

And another anti-trans bill is gone in South Dakota. The sponsor has pulled SB 93, which would have encouraged parents to withhold treatment for their trans kids. We still have the big fight over HB 1057 in committee on Monday. Keep up the pressure!

seconded. and this ad does a solid job of showing how this campaign is using the affective economy (e.g., despair not an option, give hope) to explain the problem and the path forward they identify. coupled with the castle metaphor, you can see their plan

“Sex work decrim shouldn’t be considered a fringe issue. It intersects...political struggles of our time: fight to end mass incarceration, racial profiling, & transphobic police violence; demand for social safety net; & robust protections for all workers”

also this was mainly towards electoral partisan politics (subset), not necessarily towards politics in general (umbrella).

the right knows what to do with anger and fear, and the electoral politics of progressives should have an idea too. or, read sara ahmed analyze how white supremacists use the affective and love (an emotion we apparently all want!)

and part of that comes from too many’s main idea of what is an appropriate response to anger is likely “civility to everyone” or “don’t b** vote” or “don’t be childish”.

and that’s not even getting into the racial, gender, and sexual politics of *who gets to express* “righteous” anger. once you apply that level of analysis alongside the affective, you have to question why more campaigns don’t talk about what to do with this anger explicitly.

by this, i mean that many view any invocation of anger or discontent as 45-esque bc that’s the main anger most are able to acknowledge/are wary of. and many don’t like that anger, so they project that onto other ppl’s anger, even if the nature of the angers are different.

anger is a very normal (and noted) part of the racial and economic analyses for (at least) the past decade. but if your political analysis has no stated idea for what to do with that anger (bc it won’t disappear), then you view any anger as bad, toxic, unhinged, thankless, etc.
