During the American Revolution, foreign-born soldiers taught us how to fight. The US Army was literally former by foreigners. Prussian von Steuben grew the infantry branch, Polish Pulaski the cavalry, French Duportail and Polish Kosciuszko the engineers.

18% of the force in WWI were immigrants. Greek George Dilboy and Montenegran James Mestrovitch were among the many immigrants who received the Medal of Honor for their valor in combat. Many were German immigrants, fighting against their own people for their new country
