Destroying them is bad. Removing them from places of honor is not. They should be relocated to museums where they can be placed with proper context.

This. Monuments construct a narrative based on when they were erected and what ideas they seek to promulgate. Many (most? All?) of these do not reflect ideals which Americans should revere.

Can we also replace the statues with ones showing the Confederates being subjugated or killed by Union troops (as appropriate)? Maybe figure out how to sculpt them shitting themselves in fear? I'm concerned the people who need correction most are least likely to read a placard.
