    And what Black women need is recognition that in a time when they die of pregnancy-related complications 3× to 4× as often as white women, it’s critical to talk about America’s shameful crisis in maternal care _and_ focus on the impact on Black moms.

    Why do we say that allowing people to impose their personal beliefs on patients amounts to a ? Because it's happened before, on the basis of race. And in a story this week, we've seen that those old attitudes still exist.
