You need to use proper datatypes in @postgis; My Query went from 2200ms to 0.5 ms when my data went from Geometry to Geography
@devten85 Probably not a datatype issue so much as a "right indexes for right question". Generally geography will be slower.

@postgis we were using a ST_DWithin to find out polygon with a certain distance of a point. The Bottleneck was the cast to geography -
