DAVA SHASTRI’S LAST DAY is out today—and a Book Club pick! Thank you to everyone who has supported this novel, which was a dream come true to write, and helped me achieve other dreams I didn’t even know were possible.

For I reflected on the recent subway shooting in Sunset Park, my love for south Brooklyn, & what it looks like for New Yorkers to carry collective trauma—& work toward collective healing. Huge thanks to my editor, .

This is national news because “WrongAsian” is far too commonplace. As a person of color, it is not a “micro aggression” to be erased or mistaken for either credit or blame. It can also be harmful in the criminal justice system—let’s attend to this.

The newest issue of the Gossip Reading Club is live. By popular demand, we're looking into THAT Movieline interview where Jennifer Lopez was all glamour and zero verbal filter.

ICYMI: preorder a signed/personalized copy of SIRENS & MUSES & receive a FREE ltd ed print of a painting that inspired a plotline in the novel. I tried to boost this on IG & got rejected bc of the naked siren?? If it’s too sexy for meta then it must be art 🔥 (link in bio!)

I live close to where the Brooklyn subway shooting & smoke bombing happened today—Thank you to loved ones who checked in. I’m a native NYer, I love my city, have been taking the subway alone since I was 13. But this, on top of anti-Asian crimes, is almost too much to bear. 1/3

And in that world, maybe, quite possibly, we can have EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE AGAIN, a sequel where Mr. Quan can flex his chops and the richness of this family can be revisited once again. I’ve seen dozens of films about Bruce and the Waynes. Why, then, not the Wangs?

Please stop whatever you are doing to listen to (and share) this historic moment. The words of Judge Jackson resonate in defiance of cynicism, they grow from the deep roots of pain and struggle, and they usher forth a vision of hope in a better and more just America.

How do you send work out in the world, unsure if it will land? For me, the answer is a mix of experience, the sense of urgency I feel when I work on it, and the fact that I have thought a lot about audience by the time I publish.

Still can’t believe this now exists in the world, and that in a month, it will be available to anyone who wants it. It’s about a lot of things for me. One of them is gratitude. I’m grateful that I get to see this precious dream come true.

My first novel, POST-TRAUMATIC, drops today! This one is for all the survivors who would never let violence extinguish their personalities, & for the tragicomic post-trauma-plot heroines who never saw our humor & dynamism represented in saccharine middlebrow fare! Enjoy ❤️❤️❤️
