People have been critical of journalists all the time. That's not a GG thing. But by pretending it first was a mindless hate mob against women who then "made it about ethics in journalism," you are quite literally inverting reality. It's an extremely dishonest thing to say.
That's actually a very good question. Why did this particular hate rant kick off this movement? Boosting by 4chan trolls seemed to help. Why did Elliot Roger's manifesto get seized on by the incel community? People post hateful things about women all the time. 1/2

Maybe it should be asked, why follow a movement that was triggered by something hateful? If that was the genesis of your movement, it kind of taints everything that follows. I have been a gamer all my life and I 'did my research', and GG was a basically a conspiracy LARP IRL.
-
Because the movement WASN'T triggered by something hateful, it was triggered by the fact that that "hateful rant" exposed corruption within gaming journalism. It was the corruption that triggered it, not the hate, and you know it.
-
The corruption... Right. So why did people go after her instead of the journalist? What does the game developer have to do with journalism ethics?
-
They did go after both. The journalists and the game developer committed this corruption together. But seriously, I know feminists don't care about facts, but it this actually what you people believe? That only Quinn got shit and the journalists weren't attacked? I mean, wow....
-
Right, but why go after Quinn >at all<? She wasn't a journalist. When her ex's claims were thoroughly debunked, why did people continue to go after her? Why go after Brianna Wu? She's not a journalist and no one claims she did any unethical journalism. Lianna K?
-
I watch this all happen in real time. I found it fascinating, I wanted to understand why it was going on. Every time I tried to get a coherent picture of what the movement was about, it degenerated into a conspiracy theory. No central mission=no coherent ideology.

For that matter, why is feminist critique invalid at all? Games are an art form. Art has all kinds of critics and forms of deconstruction. It doesn't stop art from being made.
