I'm not too familiar with Dataprep Lak. What are the costs associated with this. Is there a cost to query BQ & to run the Dataflow job (VMs etc)?

Yes, the cost is big query + dataflow * dataprep-surcharge. It's a good option if you want to do transformations of your data, i.e. not just a pure query.
