Exactly. NO medical treatment should be performed on an infant, unless it is to prevent a clear and imminent threat. It's a violation of bodily autonomy! Are you with me?

@politicoid_us I think you meant to say no nonmedical* or nontherapeutic surgeries should be performed on infants before they are at an age where they can consent. Routine and ritual circumcision inherently violate the Hippocratic Oath.

      Replying to @politicoid_us @ciferknight and

Nontherapeutic is a synonym of nonmedical. When you say, "NO medical treatment should be performed on an infant", that's implying that all routine circumcisions are performed for medical reasons when they are not. Many are cut "to look like his dad" or "looks like an anteater".

Systematic review does indicate that circumcision does act as a prophylactic.

But that research is being debunked and will be completely. Circumcision doesn't protect against HIV or other STDs, penile cancer is less likely than male breast cancer, and UTIs are treated by antibiotics. There is no other healthy, functional body part routinely removed without medical indication. Any part of a child's body COULD get diseased & we don't lop things off like breast buds or remove all teeth to avoid future problems with breast cancer or cavities! It's unethical.
