If there is a COVID vaccine available before election day and Biden (or his surrogates) suggest that people should not get it for political reason, that will enter into my voting calculus.

I am an absolute nobody and so far outside the political mainstream that no choice I make will ever represent enough of the voting public to make a difference in any election but I still have my dignity

what if it's available but hasn't finished all the stage 3 trials for safety and efficacy? (e.g. there's some disagreement among those who would know that it's ready to go).

Right, the context matters. If the vaccine has cleared all testing and Biden still encourages people not to get it, that would be a major strike against him. Anyway, there won't be a vaccine ready for mass consumption by November anyway.

Funny. You both presumably see the same Politicalmath tweets yet came to such different conclusions.https://twitter.com/semptyrannis/status/1302735166213890050?s=19 …

The fact that you’re voting for Biden is bad enough - we don’t need the details bro.

To the negative? I’m undecided on this. Rifling a vaccine through testing based nearly entirely on political calculus is bad. BUT, suspending bureaucratic nonsense in favor of expediting the development is good & something we did back in ‘06 for an anthrax vaccine. Which is it?

"bureaucratic nonsense" doing a lot of pejorative work there. Is there a lot of that in a normal vaccine process? Yes, I'm sure we are putting every conceivable resource at this vaccine, as we should, but any potential compromise of safety & efficacy needs to be transparent.

How would you balance that with President Trump’s delayed response to the pandemic, his insistence it would go away, his pedaling of HCQ, his refusal to support wide-spread mask usage, etc.?

I balance it, along with how fucking shitty the press and the Democrats has been to Republican governors who are doing good work. I also balance people making smug, childish points on twitter. It's all in there.
