I have a pro-life friend who did this out of her revulsion to Trump and she is extremely frustrated b/c the Dems have since gone hard-core pro-choice. If you have any conservative opinion at all & you help the Dems, they will thank you by shitting all over you.https://twitter.com/asymmetricinfo/status/1148635928103141376 …

I now realize many folks on the left expected it meant a 3rd thing: actually becoming a Democrat, or something pretty close--supporting Democrats in lower offices as a rebuke to the party, even helping them build a winning presidential/congressional coalition in 2020.

What #NeverTrump wanted was, first of all, not Trump. But some held a bit of hope that they would gain respect from the left for standing by their principles and that has absolutely not happened.

Which is sometimes the most honorable place to be. Who the hell would want either of the current sides’ good will?

This idea that "the Left" should respect some on the Right for not going full fascist is very strange to me. You don't get a cookie for being a decent person, and when push comes to shove, most of the Left still see a direct connection from the Conservative movement to Trump.

In that case, screw the left. I’m still not voting for Trump, but we shall see how they manage next year, under the EC system, with nothing but their “base.”

I think it was when @DavidAFrench talked with Ezra Klein that both sides have made the stakes too high. Agree with one thing, but the rest of their platform is so repulsive that compromise can seem impossible.

Yes, but then they've gone further with their with us or against us dichotomies. They seem to have a real dislike ot not just Trump but anyone who doesn't also despise him. Yeah, they're on the way to building a winning coalition.
