To everyone in the comments switching to Apple Music, it was Apple who started this drama in the first place. iTunes was launched as a loss leader to sell iPods before Spotify even existed. Jobs single handedly crushed the value of music to increase the value of his own brand.

Of note: music (via iPod) saved Apple from financial ruin. Now worth a trillion, worth noting they aren’t pushing back on this tiny increase, while Amazon and Google are. As with musicians, difficult for Apple (or any co.) to compete with free (YouTube, Spotify)

.003 to .004 isn't a penny, if my basic math is correct.

Songwriters would be very valuable you would think to a company that does nothing but sell music. Hope all the artists pull their work if they can't give them one more penny.

A penny per stream is a lot... they can only afford to pay this out to artists if there is no free version of any streaming service. And there shouldnt be. No music should be free. Take a cue from Netflix, which *invests* in content and actually makes a profit.

Remember that song “Put another nickel in/In the nickelodeon”? Written in 1949. As a kid, singles were $1; then downloads were $1; then ... progress. One thing digital can do is count. Surely artists can be paid, fairly, per listen, per listener?
