Most leftist criticism is coming from pro sex-worker voices, and seems largely on these grounds: 1. treating access to sex worker's bodies as a commodity, rather than as a negotiated service relation (cont.)

2. the rationale behind the "redistribution" argument stems from buying the "incels are reacting authentically from lack of sexual access" argument, which is a cover for the actual problems of toxic masculinity and violence stemming from same.

Sure, but let's put aside the nasty outgroup for a minute. Sex and affection are deeply important to mental health and well-being for many people. If we can justify massage, therapy, etc. on a medical basis, why not sex work?

I think you're possibly constructing a version of this argument in your head out of the more reasonable legalization arguments used as preface/cover.

The problem isn't the legalization stuff that's wrapped around because it's a precondition, it's the core "lack of sex made them kill, so we _redistribute_ sex as a palliative."

A) Lack of sex isn't the issue, that's fundamentally not how it works. B) Frameworks based on assigning sex workers to interact with dangerous misogynists isn't sex-worker positive.

I certainly wouldn't advocate for any kind of forced assignment in any case -- the only way this could possibly be ethical is if it were entirely consensual and ethical and if some kind of monetary compensation were offered to those affected.

This is kind of what I mean by "you're stripping out the "redistribution" part and constructing an argument out of its "legalization" clothing. Because _there is no safe or ethical way to apply sex work to fix radical misogyny_."

I totally agree that sex work can't fix radical misogyny, and that's not really any part of the confusion that I have. Is it that "Thing X might be good overall, but not for Problem Y, and trying to suggest Thing X at all is a proxy for Problem Y"?

It's more.... There _is_ no redist argument separate from taking incel claims as fact and suggesting application of female sex workers to the problem, and it is infuriating because it co-opts good things to sell poison.

OK, that makes sense to me. I appreciate your patience in talking through this with me!
