Was waking up in a panic that I had still not got round to updating our explainer on what happens to British citizens living in the EU (or moving there during the transition period) after ? All you need to know here:

  3. I think this is right. But I still don't know what happens when/if gets frit by chaos scewing his domestic agenda? He reined the hardnuts in in phase one, will he do so again? As Mij says, this stuff is fundamental to 'the project'; EU shouldn't bet on it

So thankful for everyone’s support & kind comments after vicious graffiti about me appeared on the wall in Creggan, in my home city. The community have responded to it and it has been painted over. Thank you so much for your kindness and solidarity, it lifts me up, genuinely

  8. Though of course any EU appetite for this wd disappear if it was seen as ruse to soft pedal Irish “frontstop” implementation - as made clear on recent trip.

As someone who voted Remain, it distresses me greatly to see from many types that the pain felt at leaving the EU is often manifested through such bitter, pointed and angry hatred. Not helped by sarcastic "you lost suck it up" types on the Leave side either. Despairing...

Discussion question: now that UK has left EU, is there really a credible alternative to the type of deal wants to implement? Can even Labour (say under ) settle on a long-term rule taking equilibrium? What does the formerly Remain argument now become?

There’s a reason the Commission makes a virtue of transparency: it’s difficult to keep things confidential (at 27). But it’s also v good at ‘weaponising’ transparency to shape the negotiating space. The UK side needs to get a better handle on this

  13. Brilliant on the rebranding of ‘no deal’ as “sunnily inviting” Australian Brexit, all bikinis and BBQs - I guess the Q is what happens if the real life ‘holiday’ from the EU doesn’t live up to the pictures in the brochure?

  14. has always been full of prima facie ludicrous timetables - the latest being that even if we do deal by Nov 2020 there is no way biz can absorb & implement new processes by Jan 1 2021. Will need to be some kind of taper. 2/2

  15. Thinking positively, I wonder if the new use of “transition period” by frees up the word “implementation” for the coming transition period that dare not speak its name. 1/2

  16. A sobering reminder that there is a part of the U.K. where journalism requires physical courage. The cavalier attitude in London towards Northern Ireland isn’t cost-free; not will the coming changes be.

They write lies about you but expose the truth about themselves. A sort of reverse of your journalistic ethic where you write truth and expose lies. Reject intimidation,

Leona is a hard working journalist with integrity & without bias, she leaves no stone unturned to find the truth & does it with good grace & a smile. The people doing this have nothing to offer society. They are relics of a by-gone age, trolls whose day is gone.

has the UK overreached by thinking it can actually pull off in the same year as it negotiates new relationship with the EU, gets ready for brexit proper, and negotiates other trade deals and has a spending review? Better hope not

Particularly silly clip suggesting that manufacturers will be more worried losing preferential market access to 60 million people than 450 million. Do Ministers realise or care that every statement like this reduces business confidence in the UK?

Pascal Lamy underlines a key weakness of institutions at The lack of a geostrategical departement in the institutions. No long term thinking: no capacity to connect the dots, to break silos & act geostrategically
