We have to demand from all big companies, and governments, to operate in full transparency while we, the people, have to right to protect our privacy. It is unfortunate that regulators need to step in, but you don't expect Google or FB to act on thier own.

Assuming that the people who wrote #GDPR don't understand the digital economy or ML is simply wrong. They just have a different view. Europeans are used to be subject of US extraterritorial jurisdiction. It can also go the other way around.

The real "money problem" is the fact that the data is partially, at least, user's property. You might say that the user deserves a portion of the profits ... a shareholder. After all, no user generated data, no insane profits for the corporation.
