Because they are directly more qualified it shouldn’t matter that they are women, they’re the most qualified.

Why would you assume that the pool of men is equally qualified as the pool of women? I would assume that the pool of people that are subject to bias would be more qualified than those not subject to bias, to make it into the same pool.
