Going from ‘twice as likely’ to ‘50%’ requires that 100% of hired applicants have an ‘identically qualified’ counterpart in the same hiring pool of the opposite gender. This is very unlikely and even then still would not support your ‘more qualified’ claim.

That doesn't support your claim that they are less qualified. If anything, it proves the oppsite.

Maybe a lot of old men are retiring and being replaced with highly qualified women. Or the male applicants aren't too impressive.
