Vast majority of AI researchers recognize AI ethics as an important field of study, just as worthy as any other AI subfield. Doesn't mean that everyone has to study it, doesn't mean it has less problems than other subfields, but DOES mean that @pmddomingos is extremely misguided.

I felt compelled to write this because of @pmddomingos's increasing reach. I want to help clarify that on this topic he is just wrong. Only thing that complicates discussion around AI ethics is the political component but *complicated* doesn't mean you can make a caricature of it

You’re missing the point. AI ethics has been taken over by politics and opportunists, and we really need to combat that.

But if you know a better way to do it, why don't you write a paper, like we do as academics (ideas versus ideas)? I understand you might say that there is no "idea to fight" on the other side, but effectively that would be denying the field's intrinsic (and real) interestingness.
