I don't get affection for the Confederates. Laying out their major sins in ascending order, they were racist traitors who lost.

In my entire life in the south I met one person with legitimate nostalgia for the confederacy, and he turned out to be legitimately insane. I think the idea of broad based nostalgia may be overblown.

300 million people, every possible belief or idea will come up at some point, and there is huge value to part of the political spectrum to playing up Confederate nostalgia as if it is a major thing.
