It fascinates me that many affluent elites demean the importance of cultural issues to working class voters, calling them a distraction from real bread and butter issues. It's a kind of crude Marxism that no actual human adheres to in his/her own life.

I find it interesting how affluent liberals will be like "Why do so many working class people vote against their economic interests?" and then those same liberals will vote against their own economic interests (e.g., for higher taxes) in service of their own cultural values.
When conservatives vote against their economic interests, they’re dumb. When liberals do the same, they’re virtuous.
