It’s sad that, with computers that let us do anything we want, the best we can think of for machine learning is scaling up old optimization techniques.

Well in fairness, mammal brains are pretty 'scaled up'. It makes sense to learn to scale to 10 trillion parameters, but once there, yeah, it will be all about new approaches with same model size.
