ML is not algorithmics, it’s heuristics.
It’s a basic ML fact that there’s an infinity of laws compatible with the same observations. Which ones we believe is more a function of psychology than physics.

Within machine learning, data augmentation is related to requiring the laws to respect symmetries, in the sense that each augmentation is a symmetry that you train the system to respect.
