I am a robotics/AI/HRI researcher. If we don't do ethics inherently as part of our work, and listen to those who do have an alternative perspective to our own relatively narrow experience and expertise, then we are part of the problem

Don't confuse ethics with the ideology masquerading as ethics that we're having to deal with in AI today.

I don't. But neither do I confuse the stubborn resistance ideology masquerading as a defence of the independence of AI with Ethical issues of real consequence.
