Both false (except for conspiracy theorists - don't be one).

Isn't it strange to believe that the world's military and economical hegemon wouldn't back regimes in foreign countries that align with their interests? Why wouldn't they do so?

Evidence abounds, but e.g. here are declassified documents confirming US deployed a naval task force to the Brazilian coast in support of the military coup. https://faculty.chass.ncsu.edu/slatta/hi453/PS/brazil64.htm …

Be serious. That doesn’t prove your claims.

You said that “without America, more Latin American countries would be socialist hellholes”. Does that include Brazil?

If so, presumably you mean that without the US, the 1964 “revolution” wouldn’t have happened. But if Brazil isn’t included, then what other countries do you have in mind, and what was the US influence in avoiding them becoming hellholes?

As for the US involvement with the Car Wash operation that led to Dilma’s impeachment, Lula’s arrest, and Bolsonaro’s election, here’s an article with extensive details:https://theintercept.com/2020/03/12/united-states-justice-department-brazil-car-wash-lava-jato-international-treaty/ …

Add to all of that: Bolsonaro and Car-Wash-judge-turned-Justice-Minister Sergio Moro visited the CIA headquarters in 2019, an extremely unusual occurrence.

Moro went to the CIA with Bolsonaro in March 2019. That’s public. In June 2019, under intense political pressure from the leaks showing impropriety in the case against Lula, Moro returned to the USA and refused to reveal his agenda.https://www1.folha.uol.com.br/poder/2019/06/sob-pressao-moro-esconde-detalhes-de-agenda-em-visita-aos-eua.shtml …

Why would a Brazilian Justice Minister return to the USA a few months after an official visit, right in the middle of a major political scandal? And where the scandal was about an operation that we now know had the direct involvement of US intelligence agencies?

Don’t blame Brazil’s problems on America. It’s pathetic.

I didn’t blame *all* of Brazil’s problems on the US. I made two specific and nuanced claims, the second being that there’s “some reason” to think that without the US influence we would not have had Bolsonaro. But I’ll revise that claim: there’s abundant reason.

Brazil has plenty of problems of its own doing, and Brazilians are the first to admit that. But recall that the discussion is about America’s influence on the world. I’ve given two examples of negative American influence in Brazil. What do you say in favour of it being positive?
