Hard to believe. In Venezuela for example, a lot of the legitimacy of Maduro/Chavez government depends on the american threat.

In Brazil for example, at least twice in history US acted to destroy legitimate political processes, all in name of defeating some communist phantom that was never even close to exist in reality.

Talking about my own country, without America Brazil would have probably not had a military dictatorship in 1964. And there’s some reason to think that without America we would not have had the soft coup against Dilma that eventually led to Bolsonaro.

About Cuba, it is worth noticing that the Cuban revolution was not born communist. It was a nationalist movement aiming at restoring Cuban self determination. It was the american hostility that pushed the regime to align with the Soviet Union.
