Subsidizing college only makes it more expensive.

Doctoral programs in the top 50 universities in the US are good. But good undergraduate and Master-level STEM education in much of Europe is better than in almost all US universities. And they largely public and free, or private and almost free (by US standards).
Stop saying they're free. Surely you understand that they're funded by the taxpayers. (And shouldn't be.)

I pay my taxes to California every year, but University of California (funded by taxpayers) still charges my kids >$30,000 per year. I am glad that there are student loans that deferred the payment but the sum are disturbingly ballooning for my 2 college age kids.

But that's exactly what "free" means. And they absolutely *should* be funded (largely) by taxpayers.

Ah yes, “free” means that others pay. Great. But we’re clearly not going to agree on this, so I’ll leave you to your beliefs in free lunches and unaccountability.
