Subsidizing college only makes it more expensive.
-
-
It’s not subsidies but endowments
-
Or shall we say investment? I'm not fully agree with gov subsidies.. but in some European countries is mandatory.. and they do a lot with few resources.. like
@pmddomingos and its studies in Portugal.. was not a investment?

If you are beholden to hyper-capitalist marketing and puffery to assess the capabilities of *any* institution of "higher" learning- you may as well use a TRS-80 for SOTA deep learning research. QED.
Kiitos. Käytämme tätä aikajanasi parantamiseen. KumoaKumoa

Your orig post says subsidizing makes college more expensive, now you are saying they are not best. Why switching the topic of your argument?
-
It makes it more expensive at constant quality, and worse at constant cost. Got it?

Where are the best universities in your opinion? If they're in the US, then they do get lots of government subsidies.
-
They're in the US, but they cost a lot more than they should, partly because of government subsidies. That's what I'm saying.

It's hilarious how socialism promotes the idea of free stuff. Nothing is free, someone has to pay the bill...
-
Exactly. And, as Maggie Thatcher said, the problem with socialism is that sooner or later you run out of other people's money.

I don't think any university matters more than having passion for the field you're studying and doing your studies without great financial burden.
-
Passion is not enough; you have to go into a field where you can get a job. And when you get a degree, you owe a debt, and it's better if the debt is explicit.
