I did some when I lived over there. When I told people that my grandfather was a pilot in the pacific theater, they treated that with some reverence. There were plenty of shops in China with "no Japanese allowed" on the signs, whereas Americans were never treated badly.

I remember a guy doing water calligraphy on the pavement in a park in Xi'an. He was writing a passage from Mao Zedong's writings. He asked where I was from, and he nervously scratched out a character he wrote. It was a passage condemning American imperialism.

Which China are you referring to? Republic of China or People Republic of China. Even in the US, we got guys ransacking the capitol just this year who do not give an ounce of gratitude to the America that the WW2 generation fought to defeat fascism, for crying out loud.
