Humans are the species that cheats. We cheat on running with cars, flying with planes, swimming with ships, etc. If nature was a refereed contest, we'd get instantly thrown out.

It would be cheating if the technology was used unfairly to give a leg up to incompetent offspring over other individuals who have a higher fitness score. But making technology democratized and accessible to everyone is fair play.

The problem is — the incentive system that drives and motivates the development of technology is geared towards the goal of cheating, i.e. unscrupulous selfishness (benefiting self/family/in-group regardless of the merit of fitness) over competent and meritocratic selfishness.
