I will contend, it was money and the changing economics of the industry as much as purely cynical political agendas. That's true for most legacy media outlets turned digital survivors.

Agree with this sentiment, decline of traditional media in the age where google and tech siphoned off all the ad revenue. They serve what their audience want to hear, narrative driving traffic.
