Neither. The ML algorithm's job is to model the world accurately. Then it's up to us what we do with it.

Sure - but when folks suggest regulating algorithms, they *mean* regulating how they’re used (acted upon, deployed). I don’t think there's a trend toward incriminating of an act of analysis in and of itself. It seems you’re attacking a straw man. What've I misunderstood?

Wake up, Eric. Tampering with algorithms is widespread. Read the GDPR, go to FAccT, look at what the "AI ethics" groups at tech companies are doing, etc.
