I think that we need to consider the transparency of algorithms above all else when it comes to determining if a specific application of AI is ethical -- especially when it comes to ML algorithms with extremely low interpretablity.
The things we seldom talk about under the rubric of "AI ethics" (e.g., data sharing) are much more interesting than the ones we talk about too much (e.g., fairness).
