Google is an ads company, not a cloud company. Nothing besides serving ads is mission critical for them. Amazon is far more a cloud company than Google and it shows.

As someone who worked at AWS in 2010-15, I believe the market would not have accepted wide cloud adoption from Google, Microsoft, Oracle, or IBM. Amazon had a superior level of customer trust built by the retail site, which was the key.
