Physic's aim is to explain the world through model construction using the minimal number of explanatory variables. Machine learning is nothing more than curve fitting. Without a model of the world, the only way to succeed is memorizing as many statistical regularities as possible

As far as I am aware, when physicists refer to tensors, they are probably referring to bundles and manifolds. In machine learning, a tensor is just a multidimensional array. Not a valid comparison.
