Plastics remain one of the worst pollutants ever created. They've not been maligned nearly enough. Made from a pollutant (crude oil), releasing pollutants during manufacturing, often used only once or twice, pollute for hundreds of years afterwards. What's unfair?

And their rampant usage due to low cost remains a classic example of why we can't have Good Things. There's no money in making amazingly malleable plastic-likes that are sustainable throughout their lifecycle, a side effect of the greedy strategy used by market capitalism.
