Not true, we’re innately hierarchical and we’d invent a game where someone who produces some kind of highest value is at the top, such that the game is plausibly fair. The GDP would then simply measure that value. Our nervous system is tuned to optimize growth on this hierarchy

You said it, it measures "economic" progress, not just progress or any other progress. If an activity doesn't cause money exchange, GDP does not count it as activity or progress which is quite myopic but is also exactly the root of the problems with the monetary system

The fact that the cost of production is zero doesn't necessarily mean that the cost of sale is zero.

Well, it depends on how you adjust for tech change and how you take t he math limits.

GDP growth would be zero but the actual GDP would be infinite. So it still reflects what it actually means: the sum of all goods and services produced in an economy.
