I think as long as experts and practitioners keep insisting that intelligence is just learning we'll be stuck in that paradigm. Also @Azure is a pretty big reason to lean "big compute". I'd say @DeepMind (thanks to @ShaneLegg ) is more likely to focus more on knowledge
The irony of OpenAI is that, compared to the corporate AI labs, they have the least reason to be short-term, big-compute, hacking-oriented, and yet they're the most.

Disagree on short-term. If anything, they have the most cohesive long term vision among all AI labs: achieving AGI through big compute while being a synthetic multimedia company to survive along the way. Every single product of theirs was built toward that purpose.
