Paying users for data will never take off, because the rich don't need it and the poor don't spend enough to justify it.

Do you mean that the data of the poor isn't worth paying for b/c they aren't worth advertising to? I doubt that that's true--even if consumer data were the only kind of value (which it isn't). Right?
They're worth advertising to (barely), but their data isn't worth paying for.

Sad though it is, ppl make plenty of money off the poor: payday loans, for-profit schools, etc. & then there's political ads & non-consumer data: medical, work-related etc. /1

/2 I'm not saying this to insist that paying for data is the best possible future, but only to make a point about "the poor" whom you may be writing off too quickly.
