As a rule of thumb, the more extreme a weather event, the less likely you can ascribe it to climate change.

Paradoxically, the more extreme the weather event the more likely it to be caused by climate change. Small shifts in the mean result in large shift on the extremes of an event distribution.
That's not how climate works. Climate is a nonlinear system of which CO2 is a very small part. Extremes are much more likely to be caused by natural variability.
