What do you think about this argument? GPT-3 is obviously not intelligent. It was fed by a nontrivial percentage of all text produced by humans which cannot grow by several orders of magnitude. Therefore the paradigm of feeding data into function learning is a dead end for AGI.

More precisely: function learning is obviously a huge part, but selecting the data on which to learn on is equally huge. And arguing that selection can also be covered by function learning leads to a circular argument.
FYI, every perceptron does data selection as part of function learning. Etc.

I don't think we are talking about the same selection. A perceptron learns drastically different functions if _we_ feed it different training data. And _it_ doesn't have a mechanism to select its training data.
