... I'd rather enjoy seeing a Mad Max style road race using autonomous cars in some of these "complex urban environments." Won't have to wait long until it's a requirement just to buy groceries.

Having been there on Stanley's team that kicked off the industry, I always thought: why not augment? You could put a car's sensor suite on each intersection for example. Get us there much faster.

But the horseless carriages had to first demonstrate viability and public buy-in in cities that WEREN’T designed for them yet. They didn’t whine for the cities to adapt to their needs.
