It’s about the system, not the specific rules. E.g., how many non-absentee rules include broad early voting? Or election holiday? The problem isn’t caused by specific rules. It’s caused by a system of rules. I thought you understood systems & data enough not to fall for this?

It's because people tend to care about relative changes in situations where there's no "correct" solution. Reducing early voting from 20 to 15 days will always cause an uproar, but going from 5 to only 10 will be applauded.

Opposition to voter ID laws are especially puzzling. Canada requires all voters to identify themselves, a common sense and uncontroversial requirement. And yet in some states there is strong opposition to this.
