Yeah, Newton's laws support *extrapolation*, which is awfully gosh darn useful.
Experimentalists derive phenomenological laws from data (e.g., Kepler). Theorists derive general theories from phenomenological laws (e.g., Newton). Current machine learning is spectacularly good at the former and incapable of the latter, which is where research is most needed.

Doesnt help much. Analogically, we have this alien technomiracle technology called life and we barely scratched the surface of how it works. But it does work fantastically, at least sometimes.
