Algorithms are far easier to change than human minds. It's absurd to say that they will perpetuate bias.

Respectfully, please reconsider and clarify. As has been pointed out, "algorithms" - a designation itself deserving of added specificity - are made and managed by humans. And human systems reflect human biases. How is it absurd to expect bias in algorithm design and management?

IMHO 1. Humans with biases generates data. 2. Human with bias builds algorithms guided by rules and logic and it is open source 3. Humans without biases can change rules and logic because it is open source. 4. Society feels safer

An algorithm cannot inherently be biased. However, when the algorithm is applied in a use case that isn't the right fit than there's room for bias.
