Three things to note: 1. There are many more like this. Hard to explain them all away. 2. Even if you can, these results suck. Google is not working well. 3. If the error was in the other direction, there'd be dozens of research articles and news stories screaming bloody murder.

Google finds images based on the words on the page. Therefore "couples" gives you straight couples, but "straight couples" gives gay couples because the phrase "straight couples" is more likely to occur on webpages with pictures of gay couples. No conspiracy, I'm afraid.
This can be explained by the superficiality and shallowness of the "deep" ML algorithms Google uses, rather than intentional manipulation. If a search engine is stupidly looking for text pattern matches rather than understanding semantics, then this could easy happen.
The "American inventors" one is likely due to the unfortunate fact that people like to emphasize that it's an "African American inventor" when refering to black inventors. The 2-gram "American inventor" is not found on many pages except as part of "African American inventor".
Because only if you're obsessed with writing about "race" and "equity" and "disparate impact" and colonizers, etc. etc. do you need to use the whole phrase "European art". people who actually like "European art" and write about it without the lunacy just call it...... "art"
