It over burdens and puts a lot of extra pressure on the faculty.
Tenure has failed miserably in its stated purpose of allowing faculty to speak and research without fear.

Hardly surprising. The process to GET tenure is a series of tests for conformism. A veritable tournament of bleats. Why did anyone ever think we could run people through that mechanism and get free thinking rebels out the other side?

Academics ostensibly view tenure and academic freedom as a good thing, which is presumably why tenure exists in the first place. Yet they do everything they can to ensure that those who would actually benefit from having tenure are weeded out beforehand.
