If you backtest that rule, it doesn't seem to get very good results. I don't see how it would have predicted, say, microprocessors.
On the contrary. If microprocessors didn’t satisfy a human need, they wouldn’t exist. Same with every other technology.

Arguably they were a black swan kind of technology that revealed a human need by satisfying it, and with it steered other needs. Not all needs are known in advance.
