When will people realize that it's not number of warm bodies that matters, but quality? An academic petition with 20 top authors signing is infinitely more effective than one with 500 graduate students mixed in so you can't tell whether the 20 top authors signed or not.
All the signatories of the letter we sent to ACM are professional computer scientists. Then we opened it up to everyone.
