A bigger sample size of various ethical directions should hopefully provide a better indication of which ethics people are talking about. A more democratic and less authoritarian approach.

Sure, if I can stop nasty stuff from showing up in my feed, I don't care who's saying or seeing it. But to a large contingent, the idea of other people saying thing they don't approve of, even un private, to people who don't mind it, is unbearable.

They will want 30% of whatever you make, but bigger issue is in allowing them to "host" 3rd party algo's (because zero trust they won't copy and boot yours or give "other actors" access aka spying).
-
I think the best solution is to have users access Twitter (etc.) through third-party interfaces that are not hosted by it or under its control.

My preferred algorithm would be super simple: give me everything. No filters, no ranking.
-
But then you need to write your own ranker.

Also government may mandate some algorithms to be used, which may suppress free voice. So twitter needs to distill what the algorithms are doing because even if these open source, few will understand it

It will lead to a Hobson's choice of algorithms that Twitter will control, and so I wouldn't be in favour.
